As we shake off the cold of winter and revel in the renewed warmth of the Sun's spring rays we must remember that it is also the time for one of nature's most ferocious creatures to again stalk the land. This monster,ferocious in aspect and with enormous strength, can strike at any time,day or night with little warning and within minutes lay waste to entire communities. I am speaking of the Tornado and his time has come.
Tornados are rated F0-F5 Fujita Tornado Damage Scale where F0 could mean a few light branches and poorly attached signs being blown about to an F5 which could reduce the strongest structures to what would appear from above a bunch of matchsticks carelessly strewn about by some maliciously angry child.
Now there are many suggestions for preparing for tornado season including:
Building a safe room;ensuring that you have extra water and food;flashlights(make SURE you have fresh batteries),etc. I wholeheartedly agree with all of these provisions. But if there be one thing I would go to the greatest lengths to acquire it would be an emergency notification radio that automatically turns on and alerts about impending tornado possibilities and suggests defensive actions. Having such a device can, without a doubt in my mind save your life(especially at night when darkness and debris make these storms practically impossible to see).
So when deciding on what preparedness measures to institute(and in these hard economic times such decisions may not come easy) think about what someone who knows well about such matters once said, "Timely information for me is paramount, even if all it allows me is time to duck".
